Getting familiar with your computer hardware

Understanding computer basics are important to understanding how your computer works. Many people and users of computers do not even know the difference of the computer hardware from computer software. This thought makes many people afraid to use computers. Many would think that a mistake in clicking to any of the computer keys will cause damage to the computer and requires calling skilled computer business solutions and repair technicians that charges expensive home calls.

These are the common parts of computer hardware:

Computer system

This box contains the motherboard, disk drives, microprocessor, and other computer microchips. The back contains audio, video, printer, and keyboard ports. It also contains the phone, modem, or Ethernet port, firewire, USB port, power, and empty slots designed for additional cards and functionality. At the front of the computer system, you can see the common USB, CD/DVD drive, or the port for the headset or speaker.

Inside the box are circuit boards and chips as such as the motherboard or video cards. The motherboard is composed of the microprocessor and the memory chip. Motherboards have at least six slots reserved for additional cards. The other name for the microprocessor is central processing unit better known as CPU. The CPU processes and gives the instructions to the computer and is the workhorse of the whole system. The CPU is very powerful microprocessor chip that makes the computer perform and run its function efficiently.

Keyboard

The keyboard is where one types to create an instruction for the computer to follow. This is one form of communicating with your computer besides the use of the mouse for graphics and clicking buttons.

Monitor

The computer monitor displays the result of the instructions that you gave to the computer to follow. You see the content of the website and of your desktop through the monitor.

Mouse

The mouse helps the user perform some instructions efficiently and faster for the computer to follow especially graphics.

Printer

This is the hard copy output of any content, images, or graphs displayed in the monitor.

Learning and understanding computer hardware basics makes you understand about the fundamentals of computer networking. The physical parts that you see is the computer hardware while the thing installed inside that you know helps the computer runs is called as the software. The software helps the computer perform its function.
